To understand and share the feelings, thoughts and perspectives of others.

There are three main types of empathy:

1.  Cognitive empathy – Understanding someone else’s

     thoughts and perspectives.

2.  Emotional empathy – Feeling what others feel as if their

     emotions were your own.

3.  Compassionate empathy – Not just understanding and

feeling, but also taking action to help.

Examples:

-  Comforting a friend who is upset as well as showing support, but
also understanding the feelings they have.

-  Ability to put ourself in His/Her shoes.
